The IID Western Cape held its first regional meeting under the guidance of Temi Stallings of Design Decisions on Thursday the 11th of November 2010. The meeting was held in the stunning Freeworld Auditorium in Honour of Anton Anreith at Freeworld Coatings Limited in the newly refurbished Cape Waters Building in Cape Town.
The meeting was opened by John Autard, who thanked everyone for attending and gave a brief introduction before handing over to Temi Stallings. Temi introduced herself and thanked all for attending and to Freeworld Coatings for the use of the auditorium and to all the sponsors of the evening. Temi gave an overview of the IID; its mission, its function, its members and professional affiliations as well the road forward. Temi thanked the new sub-committee for agreeing to accept their new portfolios.
Lauren Shantall of Freeworld Coatings gave an overview of the purpose and function of the auditorium, the building and the Design Centre which is to be opened shortly as well the formation of a close association with the IID and its members. The IID have been offered the auditorium for all future meetings.
Temi thanked John Autard on behalf of the National Office and the members for all the work that he has put in over the years. John gave an overview of the services that his company Autard de Bragard offers including Interior Placements, CyberCouriers, SA Interiorlinks as well as giving a short talk on ideas for Jump Starting your Business from concentrating on existing clients through effective internet and social marketing to creating a more professional approach through appearance, stationary and proper email and telephone etiquette.
Temi introduced and thanked Steven Harris and Aidan Bennetts our hosts for the evening.
Steven thanked Freeworld Coatings for the wonderful opportunity offered to the IID and spoke about the promotion of the East City Precinct as the Design Centre of Cape Town; the global launch of his new software package InteriCAD T5 on the 24th of November 2010 and the support of the bid to make Cape Town the World Design Capital of 2014.
Aidan thanked Freeworld Coatings and discussed the services offered by Aidan Bennetts Design in 3D visualisation courtesy of Furnspace 3D. He gave a wonderful insight into his own design mantra of seeing solutions not problems; the power of collaboration; the elevation of company status by taking small steps towards your goal and the expansion of knowledge and skill-set to flourish as a designer.
Temi closed the meeting by thanking all those attended as well as Freeworld Coatings, John Autard, Steven Harris and Aidan Bennetts; Hawksmoor House for the wines, Table 13 for the delicious snacks, JP Chaumette of JP Inc, Maarten Peutz for the photographs, Robyn-Lee Pretorius for all the administration and all who were involved in someway or another.
The evening was a huge success with 45 people in attendance and facilitated great social interaction and networking amongst the members and guests. Hopefully this will encourage more persons and companies to consider joining the IID.
